Happy birthday Twitter, love Pulsar
Twitter celebrates its 10th birthday today, so we decided to list our top research studies which used Twitter data to better understand audiences.
During the decade of Twitter, the platform has been fundamental in raising the profile of social media networks, increasing global connectivity, and helping map behavioural insights. Not only has Twitter fuelled short-form writing, it's also made real-time news reporting a reality, and created topical online communities with the hashtag. At Pulsar, Twitter has allowed us to understand audience behaviours more than ever before, so here's a glimpse of what you can do with Pulsar and Twitter data.
Happy birthday Twitter, love Pulsar.
The iconic image on social media: a rapid research response to the death of Aylan Kurdi
This study focused on the images framing one of the biggest issues of 2015 – the flight of Syrian refugees to Europe – made highly visible by the photographs of three-year old Aylan Kurdi lying face-down on a beach in Turkey and then picked up by a Turkish police officer following an unsuccessful attempt by his family to reach Greece in early September.
Twitter recently announced that #RefugeesWelcome was one of the most influential moments of 2015 on the platform. Francesco D’Orazio’s contribution, Journey of an Image, looked at how the images of Aylan Kurdi spread on Twitter during the first 12 hours: from one tweet in Turkey to over 20 million screens around the world.
